MPI pushes packaging in US

St Helens-based Marketing & Promotional Innovations (MPI) is in negotiations with a major US pharmaceutical packaging firm about the production of its patented FLIC product.

FLIC is a carton and tipped-on leaflet composite with a panel that protects the folded leaflet and acts as the box closure.

MPI general manager and machine designer Ian Boulton said the product was being recognised by the pharmaceutical industry as a way of ensuring that medicines and instructions were kept together.

"The company is looking at it as a compliance pack, to make sure that medicines are taken for their full course. Its a way of protecting its brands," said Boulton.

The 20-employee finishing company specialises in sachets, cards and leaflets.
