Mortons turns to Goss for fire protection

Newspaper printer Mortons of Horncastle has turned to web press manufacturer Goss to help protect itself against fire.

The Lincolnshire-based company has installed a new Hi-Fog Water Mist Fire Suppression System from finishing company Marioff at its Horncastle site.

Goss supplied the system, which will be attached to the company's Goss and Manroland presses. It has been designed to protect the company's three Ferag folders.

Mortons’ production manager Dean Wilkinson said: "Sometimes the damage caused by water or foam in putting a fire out can be worse than the destruction caused by the fire itself.

"We selected Hi-Fog so that, if we are unlucky enough to have to use it, the high-pressure water mist system would not only suppress the fire quickly and effectively, but cause minimal additional damage in the process."

The Hi-Fog system uses high pressure to produce a fine and pure water mist with an average drop size of 50-120μm.
