Yesterday (4 September) Moonpig was trending alongside Joe Lycett, Laura Kuenssberg and the Dutch Grand Prix.
The furore seemed to stem from a tweet by Twitter user ‘@milo_phoebe’ querying whether the firm had donated to the Tory party, which resulted in a pile-on of people saying they would stop buying from the online greetings and gifting giant.
The tweet was retweeted nearly 2,000 times.
That's not technically true about the other well-known card company, but no, we're not. We did donate £130,126.50 to NHS Charities Together though. And we have great hair.

Thortful took advantage of the situation with some humorous tweets of its own
It appears to be the result of a mix-up around past events involving Moonpig’s founder Nick Jenkins.
Jenkins donated £156,000 to the Tories back in 2015, four years after he sold the business to Photobox in a £120m deal.
Moonpig became a PLC when it floated on the stock exchange last year. The group’s report and accounts state: “The Group did not make any political donations or incur political expenditure during the reporting year.”
Moonpig’s social media team was kept busy replying to hundreds of tweets about the misunderstanding, with the reply: “Hey, thanks for your query. Just to confirm, Moonpig does not make any political donations, or contribute to any political parties.”
Rival Thortful also jumped on the bandwagon with a flurry of humorous tweets amid the furore.
Moonpig has nearly 45,000 followers on Twitter.
