In an interview with PrintWeek, Michael Madura, VP of Digital at Mohawk, said the company has been expanding its digital paper and specialty substrates to better help customers take advantage of the rapid advancement in print technology, adding these new products, "provide our customers with more options and to help them in meeting their customers’ demands for a wide variety of print applications ranging from durable signage and manuals to high-end marketing materials."
The new synthetic substrates come in a variety of sheet sizes and thicknesses and Madura noted the new lineup includes also packaging options for up to 1,000 sheet cartons to help printers who have made the leap into digital carton production.
"There is no doubt that digital packaging is a growth segment in print," he explained. "This trend is driven by the need for short run packaging for brand and product testing, seasonal retail environment as well as event marketing. Mohawk’s line of pre-perforated and pre-scored dimensional packaging products are designed to help digital printers capitalize on this growth without investing in finishing equipment or spending the time and effort on equipment set-up for short runs."
All told the privately-held Mohawk is introducing 68 new digital substrates and the company stressed they are engineered and compatible to run on Xerox, Ricoh, Konica Minolta, Canon, Kodak and other digital presses.
"Our new digital substrates are currently available in North and South America," Madura said. "Mohawk is a global company, and we will leverage our global distribution network with plans to introduce the new line to the rest of the world in the near future."
