Modern Meadow unveils PrintMeat plan

If the scientists at Modern Meadow succeed in their vision, we may be changing the name of this magazine to PrintMeat, for that is exactly what they are setting out to do.

The US firm has turned to 3D printing to save the world while keeping it in the meat and leather currently sourced from our four-footed, furry, farty friends. Yes, from hamburgers to handbags and stiletto shoes to sirloin steaks, Modern Meadow would like the, err modern meadow, to be a lab with a 3D printer rather than rolling acres of green.

Father and son team Gabor and Andras Forgacs have got as far as a prototype, but its product is not yet suitable for consumption. Following the recent ‘fur-rore’ surrounding horse meat in hamburgers, we’d rather be the guinea pigs, albeit not if we needed to be in Peru, than take our chances in a high-street chiller cabinet.
