The new device was installed in November and has replaced a Xerox 1000, which has been part exchanged. It will run alongside a Xerox Versant 80, which was installed around seven months ago.
The 100ppm Xerox 1000i, which was launched last year, includes an optional specialty dry ink station that enhances documents with true Pantone metallic gold or silver speciality dry inks, or applies spot or flood creative effects with clear dry ink.
Minuteman Press Bath sales and marketing director Dave Dixon said: “I think it’s quite unique to be able to offer metallic gold and silver on digital short-run work. It’s not breaking the bank anymore to do jobs such as gold printed wedding invites or orders of service.
“With some of our agencies as well we’re looking at how we can make some of their print material stand out a little bit more. A lot of our work is short-run variable data and variable data gold and silver is quite impactful. How often do you see your name printed in gold ink, for example?”
He added: “We’re very much about trying to make people fall in love with print again so you need to make it look more interesting. It’s brought metallics to an affordable level for the general market.”
The business also operates an AB Dick two-colour litho press and HP wide-format kit including Latex and Designjet machines.
Its in-house finishing services include laminating, perforating, binding and drilling and the firm is considering investment in Zünd cutting equipment later this year.
Minuteman Press Bath has 15 staff and a turnover of just over £1m. It serves clients ranging from walk-in trade and small businesses to agencies and multinational blue-chip companies.
