Midlands traded from the same Tipton site as Newey Print, which went into administrative receivership in June after running up an outstanding balance of more than 100,000 with its factoring company, Bibby Factors (PrintWeek, 19 June). Humes was a director of both companies.
Around 40 staff who hadnt been paid by Humes for six weeks were made redundant by Midlands Prints receivers on Monday. Joint administrative receiver Paul Stanley said: Its very unfortunate for the people there.
He is trying to find out what assets are owned by Midlands Print, but there is some confusion because the server containing the firms accounting information was repossessed before his appointment.
One source described the situation as a pile of steaming pooh.
Newey Print is also subject to a winding-up order, as is Midlands Publishing Holdings, Humes acquisition vehicle.
Humes has not made any progress with his bid to buy Nottinghams Hill & Tyler from its administrators (PrintWeek, 24 July).
HKMs John Harlow said he was down to one serious offer for the firm and another two interested parties.
