Micropress will take delivery of the UK’s first Dupa 2024 model of the Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 106-8P on 31 March 2025, complete with an array of optional extras first seen at Drupa 2024.

Fitted with Heidelberg’s new Inspection Control System and updated plate logistics system, Plate to Unit, the Push to Stop machine will help augment the Reydon, Suffolk-based printer’s print automation even further.

“We are thrilled to invest in what we believe is the most advanced and automated B1 sheetfed offset press in the world,” said Rob Cross, joint managing director of the family-owned firm.

“This cutting-edge technology enables us to continue delivering high quality work with fast turnaround times, all at market-leading prices. Staying responsive to the evolving needs of the marketplace is essential, and this press perfectly aligns with our commitment to innovation and continued investment.”

Micropress has invested £5m in its facilities and equipment over the past 12 months, including the September arrival of a Heidelberg Versafire 115 LP, Tecnau BookReady B3 cutter-stacker, and Canon VarioPrint iX3200 sheetfed press, alongside £500,000 worth of new solar panels on the north side of its 9,600sqm factory.

The new Speedmaster will replace Micropress’ nine-year-old XL 106-8P, and alongside the firm’s 2022 XL 106-10P will also be fitted with Heidelberg’s Push to Stop automation tech – though the new machine’s software will also benefit from AI assistance.

“We are delighted that Micropress have chosen Heidelberg for this strategic investment, Drupa demonstrated the advancements in technology and Micropress identified the benefits these will bring to their business and we look forward to working with them to maximise the performance of the new XL,” added Phil Buttress, head of sales at Heidelberg UK.

Micropress employs just under 200, with sales of around £30m last year.
