Ian Foyster said that no firm decision had been made and that discussions would continue before a final judgement was reached in spring 2003.
This company has been in Beccles for nearly 200 years, so of course there is bound to be some sadness. But our present premises are wholly inadequate very cramped. Relocation would safeguard 180 jobs and give this company a better, brighter future, said Foyster.
A supermarket is rumoured to be considering buying the present site and Foyster sees this as positive for local employment prospects.
William Clowes can list Whos Who, Whittakers Almanac and the Beatrix Potter series of childrens books among its contracts.
It will be our 200th anniversary in October 2003, said Foyster. If the move goes ahead then this should be seen as an excellent development. It would allow us to invest and create a far better working environment.
One employee, former councillor Chris Scott, said that the majority of workers were against the move.
