The investment is part of the group's strategy to push itself as a one stop shop for clients. It offers design, photography, repro, logistics and point-of-sale services to clients in the packaging and labels sectors.
"The expansion at the labels and packaging division is the strategy of the group. We've expanded into other areas to offer clients an end-to-end service if they want it," said McGurk Group marketing director Paul Stephenson.
He added that an increasing number of retailers were "very interested" in the company's strategy.
McGurk Labels & Packaging will move into the new plant at the end of this month and will install a new Edale Beta eight-colour UV flexo press with cold foil blocking and de-lam/re-lam unit. The machine will run alongside its two Comco Cadet water-based flexo presses.
"By investing in new premises it gives us another string to our bow. We expect to grow organically with existing clients set to place more work with us," said McGurk Labels and Packaging managing director Gary McGurk.
He added that he hoped that this year's turnover figure of 1.2m would increase to 2.5m in 2005.
The group also recently integrated Kodak Polychrome Graphics' RealTimeProof into its web based online management system OMNI, the Online McGurk Network of Information. It offers web based digital tools to assist clients with project management. The system includes a digital asset library and RealTimeProof enables proofing to be done online.
