Maurice Payne takes first Prinect suite

Maurice Payne has become the first UK firm to adopt Heidelbergs Prinect suite of management software.

The Reading-based printer, which was at the forefront of efficient production with its two 12-colour Speedmaster 102s, installed the system to further improve efficiency.

It gives us better communication between press, pre-press and management, said managing director Maurice Payne. I reckon it replaces about four or five people, and so far were probably using about 25% of it. Our problem is getting to know the whole system.

Heidelberg has been working hard to get Prinect, its Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM), up and running in UK printers.

It has appointed Graham Avery as a Prinect specialist and is working closely with a number of printers including Maurice Payne and Bristol-based TL Visuals on getting them up to speed with Prinect.

Heidelberg UK marketing manager for pre-press Lance OConnell said: If you are in the business of getting print out of your presses you need all the tools in front. Maurice Payne has been very quick to see those benefits.

The firm is using the Prinance MIS, DataControl scheduling and ImageControl closed loop colour system alongside its CPtronic and CP2000 press consoles.

Colour quality is seen as a key part of the system by both firms, reducing makeready and waste and improving quality and consistency.

Not only is it MIS, its colour management and cost management, said Payne. You know the first sheet is a match for the 500,000th and we can measure from the proof and get an exact match on press.
