Mason said he thought the role would be an exciting experience, and saw it as a catalyst for the future development of the group.

Denmaur and Independent Paper managing director Mike Gee said Mason's appointment would strengthen the group's position for the future.

The appointment adds to Mason's industry portfolio of non-executive positions, having joined Inveresk as a non-executive director in September 2004.

Mason will continue in his position with the Scottish paper producer, along with the Denmaur and Independent roles.
