Wheeler, who ran the business with his brother Matthew from 1998, passed away on New Year’s Eve (31 December).

Director of operations Chris Goodayle said: “We are deeply shocked and saddened by this terrible news. The thoughts of everyone at Marpak are with Ed’s family and friends, and we extend our deepest sympathies to them.

“Marpak is a wonderful family business and it has been a great privilege to know Ed personally and to work with him. He was such a kind human being and was highly respected for his warm and considerate style that has helped build Marpak into such a strong business.

“Ed’s brother and joint managing director, Matt Wheeler, is understandably in a state of shock, but he knows it would be Edward’s wish to build and strengthen the legacy that he helped create here at Marpak over the last 20 years."

Under the Wheeler brothers, Marpak grew to a workforce of 30 staff.
