Mailing industry hit by double closure

The UK mailing industry has had a difficult month, with at least two mailing houses going into administration in April.

Mailing house Packmail has closed its doors after going to into administration on 9 April 2010, while Colourfolio in Rossendale, Lancashire appears to have closed after going into administration on 13 April.

Martin Pickard and Michael Wellard of insolvency practitioner Mazars were appointed to Milton Keynes-based Packmail, making all 38 staff redundant immediately upon appointment.

According to a spokeswoman for Mazars attempts to find a buyer for the business proved unsuccessful.

She added: "Administrators are now looking to break up the assets of the company."

The administrator said that the closure was a knock on effect of related company Response Direct Publishing going into administration on 2 February 2010.

In the second casualty in the mailing industry this month, David Acland and Lila Thomas of Begbies Traynor's Preston office were appointed administrators at Colourfolio on 13 April.

Begbies Traynor refused to comment at the time of writing, and calls to the company went unanswered.

Colourfolio was established in 1990 and offered a range of digital print and finishing services such as poly-wrapping and folding.
