Mailcom closes call centre and plans acquisition following cash injection

Direct mail house Mailcom has closed its Northern call centre as part of a 3.5m restructuring program.

The Boldon, Tyneside-based company received a £3.5m funding injection at the beginning of the month, and as part of the restructure, the group’s Mailcom (North) call centre, which traded as NewLogic, was placed into administration and all profitable trading activity was transferred into Mailcom.

Following the investment, "certain business activities" within the group were restructured at the same time.

According to Mailcom, there were no redundancies associated with the administration.

Chief executive Neil Shotton said: "Moving forward, the business will operate under a single brand and the restructure of these activities is expected to increase pre-tax profits in this financial year by approximately 7%.

"The capital injection will be used to increase Mailcom’s disaster recovery and e-billing services. We are currently in discussions regarding making a sizeable acquisition of a business in the e-billing space."
