M-real to close Tako board mill

Paper manufacturer M-real has announced the closure of a board machine at its Tako mill, based in Tampere, Finland. The closure is part of the companys restructuring programme for its Finnish operations.

The line, which produces 70,000 tonnes of folding boxboard annually, is expected to close by 31 July 2007.

Most of the decommissioned line’s production will be transferred to machines at M-real’s Consumer Packaging business, which is located in Finland.

The firm said the impact on staff was “being assessed locally” and consultations had begun, but it is not clear how many redundancies would result from the move.
