London's latest freesheet branded 'a shocker'

London's latest freesheet, The London Weekly, hit the streets today, much to the surprise of London's media community.

The paper, which will be distributed on Fridays and Saturdays, aims to step into the space left by the closure of thelondonpaper and London Lite.

Publisher Global Publishing Group announced the title back in December, but for the past few months the title has been mocked by publications, including The Guardian, who questioned whether it would appear.

Many of those publications are now commenting on the quality of the new freesheet, with some even claiming that it is a Brass Eye-style hoax.

Editor of Haymarket title Brand Republic branded the new paper "shocking" and "worse than you could imagine".

GPG has not helped itself by maintaining a cloak and dagger approach to the title. Little information has been given out and most questions are only answered via email, with limited response.

The publisher has still not confirmed where The London Weekly is printed and one contract newspaper printer told PrintWeek this morning: "We contacted them about the contract but never heard back from them. Nobody knows where the title is being printed, we talked to our distributors and they aren't giving any information out. Nobody seems to know anything."

The London Weekly was not available for comment at this time.
