LG Davis has increased its capacity and speed of production after taking on a Comet Modular Encapsulation machine.

Based out of a circa-2,300sqm site in the Kings Heath area of Birmingham, the business purchased the new machine from D&K. It was commissioned in June and replaced an old system.

LG Davis said it is one of the only printers in the Midlands offering the specialist printing technique, which covers a printed sheet with a rigid strong plastic to provide extra protection and durability.

Encapsulation is often used to create brochure covers, menus, or signs that can easily be sanitised and protected against wear and tear.

The high-speed industrial Comet Modular Encapsulation machine provides the company with the ability to print up to 25m of high-quality encapsulation products a minute, with the pneumatic operation of Teflon coated rollers also allowing the use of specialist films.

LG Davis managing director Liz Smith said: “As one of the only suppliers in the Midlands with this capability, our added investment is not only enhancing our in-house services here in Birmingham, it is helping to create a first-class service for the wider community.

“We are excited to continue to grow our encapsulation service and invest in new equipment which not only improves the service for customers but increases our capacity as well.”

LG Davis first opened its doors in 1962 as a small stationery shop in Balsall Heath. A family-run firm, Liz Smith is the daughter of founder Ron O’Donnell and she has seen the business grow into a multimillion-pound print and office supplies company.

Now with 40 staff and serving clients including NHS trusts and public sector organisations, the business is targeting £5m turnover by 2025.
