The new Boomerang, supplied by iPack Solutions, will arrive at Lexon’s Crumlin, Newport facility in the next week. 

Commercial director Dominic Hartley said the business needed to increase its post-press firepower to meet customer demands. 

The Boomerang is compact and can be run by a single operator as it is designed so that the stream of folded and glued finished product returns to the feeder end, allowing one person to carry out feeding and packing. 

Lexon, which offers creative packaging production through its LexPak brand, has configured its £150,000 device with an additional three line hot gluing system. 

The firm runs a Komori Impremia IS29 B2 LED UV sheetfed inkjet press, which was the first of its kind in Europe when it was installed in 2017, and a Highcon Euclid III laser cutting and creasing system.

Hartley said the combination was proving “a massive hit” with customers. 

“The Boomerang is the ideal solution for our low run, ultra-fast turnaround carton work whilst also able to cope with our large volume carton orders. Our two current folder gluers are limited with their gluing options and with our soon to be launched ‘web to pack’ online carton portal we needed to be in a position to keep the whole process in-house,” he said. 

“Space and manning also played a huge part in our decision to purchase the Boomerang,” he added. 

Hartley said the firm was developing the packaging side of its business, which includes a new web-to-pack offering that is expected to go live in the autumn. 

Lexon Group also runs conventional B2 presses, screen printing, and a range of other small- and large-format digital equipment.

The firm employs 62 staff and has sales of around £6m.
