LCC receives a helping hand from Duplo as it expands digital suite

London College of Communication (LCC) has opened an expanded digital print room following the installation of a 140,000 finishing set-up.

The south-east London-based college’s Centre for Creative Digital Printing has installed a host of post-press kit donated by Duplo International.

Les Claridge, associate dean of the School of Print and Publishing, said the new kit would “allow for the
development of a wide range of student-centred solutions that demonstrate creativity and a strong sense of commercial reality”.

New Duplo kit in the centre, which will be operational by the start of the summer term, includes a booklet-making system and a standalone DC-645 machine for cutting, creasing, slitting
and perforating.

The new equipment will sit alongside the centre’s existing DocuColor print engine, which was donated by Xerox.

Claridge said: “While we already possess print finishing kit at the college, the Duplo commitment allows for further opportunities to develop a finishing solution that adds value to students’ studies and offers the
school a highly prized additional facility.”

Duplo’s partnership with LCC follows a six-month long initiative introduced by the dean of the college,
Sue Pandit.

The Esher-based supplier has also donated equipment to the college’s litho print room, which runs £1.2m-worth of Heidelberg kit and has previously donated machines to the National Printing Skills Centre at Leicester College.

Peter Jolly, UK marketing manager for Duplo International, said Duplo was “totally committed” to supporting print education.
