LCC installs Heidelberg platesetter

The London College of Communication (LCC) has installed a Heidelberg Topsetter thermal platesetter in anticipation of its forthcoming Print Media Masters degree.

The course, a joint venture between the German manufacturer and LCC, will start in October and has so far filled seven of its 10 places.

Heidelberg has still to install the latest version of its pre-media workflow software, Prinect Printready, as well as MetaDimension RIP and a HP5500 proofer, but is waiting until the college installs new workstations.

Heidelberg UK managing director George Clarke said it was essential print media students were brought up to date on pre-media technologies.

"It's the right thing for them to do. They've got printing equipment, but no workflow and CTP, and that's what they need to learn," he said.

The new equipment will be housed in the Heidelberg Room at the Elephant and Castle college site, alongside a Speedmaster SM 74.

"This investment means LCC can stand up against any college in the world in terms of its state-of-the-art equipment," said Clarke.
