Large-format list & mood Indigo

Jo Francis tracks down the solutions to your technical troubles

Q Can you advise me who could print a run of 1,000-plus sheets of tear-resistant paper, size 914x1,524mm, in full colour (single-sided) from file supplied?
Gordon Keith, Compass Print Holdings

A Here's my list of large-format litho printers, I'm sorry to report that since I last reproduced it a year ago a couple of relevant suppliers have gone to the great print graveyard in the sky. Nevertheless, you've still got plenty of choice from the following. Alderson Print Group (020 8224 0000, www.aldersonprintgroup.co.uk), Augustus Martin (020 7537 4200, www.augustusmartin.com), Delta Group (020 8498 4400, www.thedeltagroup.co.uk), Dobson & Crowther (01978 862100, www.dobsonandcrowther.com), Hart & Clough (01274 863202, www.hartandclough.co.uk), Havelock Europa (01383 823636, www.havelockeuropa.com), Odessa Offset (020 8778 7888, www.odessaoffset.co.uk), Showcard Print (01462 677148, www.showcardprint.com), SMP Group (020 8855 5535, www.thelast4feet.com) and SP Group (01527 508000, www.spgroup.co.uk).

Q In your 6 August issue, you said there were 31 companies using HP Indigo presses for digital label printing. Could you list them please?
'MY', via email

A Well, space precludes me from listing them all, but I can certainly point you in the direction of the information. HP has a useful online tool that links to HP users who are members of its print service provider network. It's a searchable database aimed at print buyers, specifiers, marketers, etc that allows you to search by a variety of end-products. In my case I was looking for self-adhesive label printers, but it spans all sorts of materials, and you can also narrow down by country/city/postcode. A list of HP customers with the relevant kit then pops up. You can find it here: www.hp.com/go/pspnetwork.

Glue applicators #2
A somewhat belated follow-up to the query about Pfohl gluers back in July. Stephen Rawlings from Protek Packaging (01942 725627, www.protekpackaging.com), which distributes kit from Italian adhesive application manufacturer Preo, suggested that a slot application system might fit the bill. "The nozzle will apply a flat coating of adhesive to the width of the nozzle exactly where you want it." Meanwhile, forum member 'NDCT' suggested a Swift gluer (01531 822599, www.swift-gluers.com) might also do the trick.
