The machine, which was installed at the litho and digital firm’s premises in Ballinasloe, County Galway last month, is the company’s fourth Polar guillotine.
“It was an easy choice to stick with Polar, the investment was about reliability as much as anything else. Our first Polar guillotine is now 48 years old and still working perfectly,” said managing director Brendan Kelly.
The Polar 92 guillotine has a cutting width and feeding depth of 920mm, a maximum loading height of 130mm and knife speed of 45 cycles per minute. It also features Polar OptiKnife for fast knife changing and positioning accuracy of 0.01mm.
The machine will largely be used to handle the digital work that now represents 10% of the company’s turnover.
“The OptiKnife knife changing is fantastic. The operators are very happy with this new cutter which we will run on a single day shift. Having the extra capacity will make us still more efficient,” said Kelly.
The company, which has 34 staff and a turnover of around €4m (£3.13m), offers products including instruction leaflets, booklets, continuous forms, security print and wide-format signs to customers in the life sciences, hospitality and public sectors. It exports a lot of its life sciences work, which makes up 70% of its business, to mainland Europe.
