What did the job entail?
Saxon was asked to produce a stunning luxury carton to protect and enhance the Sette Vie brand and the fine materials used in the bottle design. After consultation with Mirri, and to remove the need for block foiling, Saxon chose to use ‘direct metalised’ high-quality board MirriEco Ag, which is also recyclable and repulpable. The product was laminated using Korsnas Carry Coated Natural Kraft board, which created a metallic two-sided strong material with a smooth finish on both sides.
How was it produced?
For the print process, Saxon called on trade UV printer Oriel Printing, which ran the artwork through its Color-Logic metallic colour system, put an opaque white primer down and then printed two blacks direct onto a silver substrate using a seven-colour Heidelberg Speedmaster CX 102. ‘Dew drop’ texture UV varnish was also applied.
“Boutique Brands wanted a matt black on the inside of the box and a slight sheen to the box on the outside to give a metallic look,” said Saxon Packaging sales manager Mike Impson. Two intricate windows were then die-cut into the boxes, which were then folded and glued together. 4,000 cartons were produced in total.
What challenges were overcome?
“There’s a squiggly cut-out that runs round the corner on the front of the box which mimics the region in Italy where the drink is produced. That had to line up with the label on the bottle and it was was quite tricky from a design point of view to get the positioning bang on,” said Impson.
What was the feedback?
Boutique Brands creative director David Price said: “We are very pleased with the final result. We were pretty surprised at how well it came out as well, given the fact that MirriEco Ag has 100% eco credentials. The finishing of the boxes is also extremely luxurious and adds a bit of a sexy mystique to it.”
