Killer app: Digital shines on Silver stock

Precision Printing has printed Think Digital, a project commissioned by paper manufacturer M-real Speciality Papers to raise the profile of digital printing in the design sector. Some 2,700 copies of the booklet were printed on M-real's Silver Digital paper.

How was it produced? M-real’s Ann-Marie Lawson, business development and marketing, UK & Ireland, said: "This project was created to challenge perceptions and concerns raised by the design community with the quality and capability of digital print." It was designed by Bateson Studio and printed digitally on Precision Printing’s HP Indigo 7500 digital press. The Think Digital book is printed on silver digital paper, produced at M-real’s Gohrsmühle mill, and is available from paper merchants Antalis McNaughton and Premier Beswick.

What challenges were overcome? Precision Printing managing director Gary Peeling said that some of the graduation tints within the booklet were tricky. "There were some challenging spreads in terms of print and tones, but the HP Indigo is quite a robust press, and could handle it all well," he said.

What was the feedback? Ritchie Florey, creative services manager at Targetbase Claydon Heeley, said: "I was introduced to Silver digital paper when I asked the mill for advice on a pitch – it was exactly what we were after. We took it along to the meeting and the client absolutely loved it, they even kept the Think Digital book, which showed off the silver digital paper beautifully – the printing is clean, clear and crisp. It contains facts to emphasise the quality of the print, too."
