KBA notches up 105m of sales at Ifra day one

KBA signed 105m (E150m) of business on the first day of Ifra, including the first sale of its waterless Cortina press.

Dutch printer Rodi Rotatiedruk, near Amsterdam, will install the press next summer. The three-tower press will have a 578mm cut-off and be able to produce 48pp broadsheet or 96pp tabloid.

As PrintWeek went to press, KBA was also about to sign a three-year deal with Sun Chemical to develop inks for the Cortina.

KBA director of marketing Klaus Schmidt said: They are like flexo inks, they are very clean and look bright on the paper. This is VOC-free production.

The firms will pool R&D resources and future products will be jointly owned.

KBA is also believed to be talking to Creo about a co-operation agreement for its thermal platesetters needed for waterless printing.
