Watkiss (née Colvile) died peacefully at home with her family by her side last Monday (2 December).
Working for family business Watkiss Automation for 30 years, Watkiss was diagnosed with a brain tumour 18 months ago and, together with husband of nearly 40 years Mike Watkiss, took early retirement from the business after diagnosis so that they could spend as much quality time together as possible.
Watkiss enjoyed the outdoor life, in particular her vegetable garden and bees, and she and her husband enjoyed skiing and sailing together and had planned to do more sailing in their retirement.
Brother-in-law Paul Attew, who was sales director for Watkiss Automation for 40 years prior to his retirement in May, said: “Jo worked tirelessly for the family business and was at the forefront of promoting and maintaining the company image.
“Her attention to detail was second to none as she had very high standards. Jo was my sister-in-law, colleague and friend. She will be very sadly missed.”
Described as "a much loved wife, mother and granny", Watkiss is survived by her husband as well as their four sons and two grandchildren. Her funeral will take place at 12.30pm on 18 December at St Lawrence’s Church, Willington MK44 3PX.
Attendees are encouraged to wear a touch of colour. The family has requested family flowers only, but donations can be made, if desired, to Sue Ryder St John’s Hospice.
