Jigsaw managing director William Fairbairn said that, after 21 years as an independent business, his firm would be "incorporating" with Push. The two high-end book printers are located four minutes’ walk from each other in Bermondsey.
Fairbairn said that the Jigsaw brand would be absorbed by Push, with the two limited companies running in tandem under the Push brand for an undetermined time. Fairbairn’s role at Push is yet to be officially defined and he said his team of three Jigsaw staff had been offered roles at Push, but would be “looked after” either way.
Fairbairn said: “A shared ethos, commitment to quality, best practices, are some of the obvious synergies. Jigsaw and Push have known each other for some time and are excited about what this move will bring.
“The strong fit means that the transition will be seamless, with no disruption of service. The move takes immediate effect.
“Clients will benefit from an economy of scale. This is a meeting of the minds that we have been chatting around for a number of months. There was little customer crossover and so now our focus is on continuous expansion as a single entity.”
Push’s B2 Fujifilm Jet Press 720S was singled out by Fairbairn as a key new addition to the services now available to Jigsaw’s clients. At the time of installation, Push director Roy Killen said his firm had “now found the press that can deliver what we need” in terms of quality and production value. It also runs a five-colour Heidelberg Speedmaster CD102-X.
Jigsaw’s own plant list included a five-colour B1 Heidelberg Speedmaster 102CD with coater, an Oki ES SRA3 digital laser printer and two Epson proofers, as well as finishing kit from Polar, Nagel and Morgana. All kit will be sold on due to the overlap between Jigsaw's own capabilities and Push’s.
According to accounts made up to 31 July 2018, Push Print employed 21 members of staff and, according to a PrintWeek report last year, it turned over around £4m prior to taking on Jigsaw. Push was named Book Printer of the Year at the 2017 PrintWeek Awards.
