Jarvis Porter is pulling the plug on its loss-making Creative Packaging operation in Hinckley, and will close the plant with the loss of almost 260 jobs.
The group had attempted to sell the business, but after negotiations broke down the Jarvis board reluctantly decided that closure of the division is the only way of stemming the losses. .
The closure of Hinckley will cost the embattled labels and packaging group some 8m. .
At the end of last month (PrintWeek, 20 April) Jarvis Porter announced its results for the year to 2001, and said that Creative Packaging had given the company most cause for concern. However, at the time it appeared confident that the 17.3m division could return to profitability.
The business will be wound down over the coming months, and Jarvis Porter remains hopeful that it will be able to sell some parts of the operation.
