The title, published by Newsquest – the sister company of the Dorset-based magazine printer Southernprint, which prints the publication – had suffered in the face of online competition such as eBay and Craigslist.
Exchange & Mart has put 80 of its predominantly Poole-based staff in consultation as a result of the decision.
Charles Jarrold, managing director of Southernprint, told PrintWeek: "The magazine market will be tough in 2009 and if paper prices rise further then we may see more titles disappearing.
"It's been clear for a while that the classified market is shifting online. Exchange & Mart's print edition had proved important in shifting traffic online, but the website but became a strong enough product to stand alone."
He added that the consumer magazine market was holding up well, despite a general dip in sales.
ABC's last figures on Exchange & Mart are from 2007, when it had a circulation of 21,754.
February's Exchange & Mart will be the last printed edition.
Industry fears as classifieds magazine goes online only
