Indigo has launched the Platinum, its replacement for the TurboStream, which offers improved image quality and a lower entry price.
Based on the same Series 1 imaging system as the TurboStream and the e-Print Pro+, it uses a new exposure unit that is claimed to produce smoother tints and solids with less banding than previous machines.
"Image Tracking Technology (ITT) gives a much more uniform result," said Indigo UK general manager Steve Donegal.
Indigo claimed that the Platinum offered higher image quality than any machine in its class. The entry level-price of a four-colour machine will be under 140,000.
"The four-colour platform competes like for like with the Xerox DocuColor 2060, but offers upgradeability to six colours," said Donegal.
"Most of the existing TurboStreams operate with a fifth or sixth colour, many end-users demand it," he added.
Orders for the Platinum are being taken now, with deliveries set to begin at the end of next month. A machine will be installed at Indigos Watford showroom by the beginning of August.
It will get its first UK showing at Indigos roadshow in Manchester on 4-5 September and will also be shown at Print UK later that month.
TurboStream users, of which there are over 120 in the UK, will be able to upgrade to the Platinum from the beginning of next year. The upgrade price has yet to be set.
"Indigo is the only company to have a completely upgradeable solution," said Donegal. "We expect to upgrade most TurboStreams in the UK."
