Indian print-packaging giants announce super alliance

Two of the biggest print-packaging companies in India have merged to create a super alliance set to dominate the industry in the country.

Packaging giant Utility PrintPack announced the alliance with Pragati Group – a leader in the printing sector in India – on 3 October.

As part of the agreement, the two companies will share resources to develop integrated packaging solutions for their clientele.

Both companies have agreed to pool together the necessary resources in their respective units in Ahmedabad and Hyderabad on order to work together more effectively.

Utility PrintPack executive director Jinesh Mehta said: "We hope to complement each other's production abilities and expertise.

"There's immediate extension of our product range and doubling of capacity which guarantees production back-up. The potential is tremendous."

Harsha Paruchuri, executive director of Pragati Pack, added: "Both companies share our vision for high-end packaging and for customer service.

"With our complementary skills, technology and know-how, we will work hand-in-hand to offer customers a full end-to-end solution for all their print needs."

In addition, Utility PrintPack formally confirmed their global alliance with US-based Curtis Packaging and Europe-based Alliora (Ileos), which was officially launched in India.

The conglomeration under the aegis of Global PrestigePack, which encompasses companies from three continents, is considered to be the first of its kind in the prestige packaging sector on a global level.

Collectively the alliance members have 200-plus years of printing, finishing and converting expertise.

According to Mehta, the alliance will be a "one-stop solution across the globe".

He said: "Each member company has made extensive investments in R&D and have implemented a number of special/patented anti-counterfeit solutions which are now shared between the partners for benefit of their local customers too."

Global PrestigePack will target premium packaging products for the luxury segments like perfumes, cosmetics, health and beauty, spirits, gourmet food and more.

Some of the key brands served by the Alliance partners include Clarins, Lancome, Givenchy, Christian Dior, Chanel, and L'Oreal.

Manoj Mehta, chairman of Utility PrintPack, said: "The beauty sector is growing at the rate of 20-25% and the present market in the premium segment is $1.5bn (£0.85bn).

"One has to maintain highest quality levels while also remaining competitive. The alliance enables us to establish a common benchmark of products, standardise raw materials, and to share SOPs and internal production procedures."

Mumbai-based Utility PrintPack is one of the fastest growing packaging companies in India with a recently inaugurated 10,219sqm factory in Ahmedabad, equipped with an ultra-modern infrastructure to cater to the most complex folding carton requirements.
