Nick Loaring, owner of The Print Project, and Paper Cut Bindery owner Roger Grech, both based in Shipley, have teamed up to put together the Shipley Wayzgoose event. 

“The tradition of the wayzgoose is a long-standing part of the printing industry, and the more modern definition has come to mean a printers’ party or coming together of fellow printers,” Loaring said. “I’ve been to similar events in the south, but there was nothing really like it in the north so we decided to see if we could do something.”

The Shipley Wayzgoose will take place on Saturday 3 June at the Kirkgate Centre creative community space in the town. Loaring said 17 of the 24 tables available were already booked.

Participants include type foundries and specialist letterpress printers, with exponents including the Whittington Press, Effra Press & Typefoundry, Print for Love of Wood, Nomad Letterpress and Double Dagger already signed up.

“The focus is on letterpress printing and the art of the book, and all the elements that go into that,” he added. “We hope printers who were involved in the trade in the past will come along as well.”
