IIR rethinks Newstec format

IIR is to review the format of newspaper show Newstec after attendance for this years show dropped by 20% compared to the 2003 event.

The exhibition's organiser is planning to consult both exhibitors and visitors to redefine the format for the show, which attracted around 870 visitors to the Brighton Metropole hotel between 23 and 25 May. Two steering group meetings are planned to take place towards the end of June.

Charlie Hastings, Newstec marketing director, said: "The key people are coming to Newstec, so the quality of visitors is there, but we need to find out how to recreate the buzz."

Exhibitors agreed that a wholesale review of Newstec was needed, but were keen for the event to continue in Brighton.

IIR has invited anyone wishing to have their say on the future of Newstec to contact the firm.

Meanwhile, IIR owner and founder Lord Laidlaw of Rothiemay last week sold the exhibitions firm, which also produces Ipex, Digital Print World and Northprint, to rival T&F Informa for 768m.
