Hygiene standard allows Harlands to tackle food market

Harlands has gained a global food packaging hygiene standard for both its UK and Polish operations, allowing it to enter new markets.

The BRC IoP (British Retail Consortium and Institute of Packaging) category B accreditation will enable the Clondalkin-owned printer to produce labels for food products.

"We are not going to go after the food labelling sector in the general sense," said managing director Ian Wright. "We will only look at premium food applications."

The measures taken to attain the standard were overseen by Harlands hygiene manager Sue Webster and Kath Cotterill, Clondalkin Group quality manager.
