HSW targets 8m sales after Heidelberg spree

A B1 printer in the Rhonda Valley is aiming to increase sales by a third after a 2.5m investment in Heidelberg press and finishing kit.

HSW Print has bought a Speedmaster SM 102-10P, a Stitchmaster ST350 and a Ti52 buckle folder.

The company’s managing director, Malcolm Hackman, said that the equipment would help to increase the efficiency of the business by reducing costs.

He said: “Printers cannot increase their prices, so to remain competitive, we have to reduce costs, and the best way to do that is to invest in more efficient equipment.”

Hackman added that he expected the investment to boost HSW Print’s turnover, which is currently at £6m, to around £8m.

The company has also switched its hours for 2007, moving to a continental shift pattern. Instead of a five-day, 24-hour week, HSW now runs six days a week, with the seventh day left open for maintenance.

Changing the hours has allowed the company to bring in eight new members of staff, taking the total workforce to just under 90.

Hackman is now looking to improve its pre-press department, and said that investments might be made over the next year or so to further improve the company’s efficiency.

He added that the company would also consider further investments to increase its digital offering.
