Details at this stage remain scant, but the company is planning to launch into this market next year, according to Laurent Glaenzer, HP large-format business manager, commercial imaging and printing group EMEA.
It is keen to target this market, which sits between its own office, personal and wide-format product range and the digital press technology it gained after it bought Indigo.
Glaenzer said that HP wanted to take on the sector of the market that has traditionally been dominated by Xerox.
It is all part of the firms strategy to provide end-to-end solutions for printing and publishing.
Another example of this is the launch this summer of the remote proofing function for its DesignJet 10, 20 and 50 two-page proofers that were launched last September.
Software for any of the three proofers can set up a PDF with the correct job settings for output on a remote DesignJet.
