The new service, EduPrint, will allow schools, colleges and study centres take many printing jobs in-house, and also give students the opportunity to develop creative and business skills.
It combines the latest HP Z series printers from the manufacturer's large-format Designjet range with an automated software template, developed by The Landscape Group, that enables personalisation of content.
The option to bring printing in-house could lower costs, especially for small jobs such as school photos, calendars and newsletters. The software comes with a cost estimator to gauge the approximate cost before any item is printed and allows the school to set up secure print job approvers so continued cost efficiencies can be achieved.
EduPrint also enables enterprise-based learning opportunities, tapping into the government's increasing focus on encouraging young enterprise in school environments from ages eight to 18.
Students that use the Eduprint solution are able to design and print personalised content such as posters, photo montages of school trips, personalised calendars, booklets and certificates, up to 42in wide.
Nancy Janes, business manager at HP Imaging and Printing Group's Graphic Arts division, said: "Until recently, harnessing the power of digital images often required a sizeable budget, the services of outside professionals, and significant production time.
"Now, digital technology has enabled us to bring large-format printing to a new market, putting these types of short-run materials within reach of even modest budgets and offering valuable life experiences to students."
HP teams with Landscape Group to move school print in-house
Printing giant HP and software house The Landscape Group have joined forces to create a new print-on-demand service for schools, in a move that could decrease the amount of educational work outsourced to commercial printers.
