Quark is releasing a new XTension software module called QuarkXClusive, which is available as a free upgrade to users of QuarkXPress 6, that creates powerful variable data publishing capabilities optimised for HP's printer portfolio.
The XTension can currently be downloaded from the Quark website (www.quark.com) but will be built in to future versions of the desktop package.
Bill McGlynn, vice president of HP's imaging and printing group, said that the alliance meant that customers could "literally print a package right through from QuarkXPress to one of our digital presses".
He added: "By making it easy to integrate customer relationship management databases with the design and printing process, companies will realise the impact of real-time targeted marketing and the increased return on investment, while agencies and commercial printers will realise new business opportunities".
Kamar Aulakh, president and chief executive officer of Quark, said that the new partnership would give "designers, marketers and output providers the tools they need to capitalise on new business opportunities in digital printing and truly drive a shift to variable data publishing".
Quark has announced that it will also certify HP graphic arts printers and presses on an exclusive basis for optimised print performances and that the two firms plan to collaborate on new initiatives in the areas of colour management, custom solutions and joint technical support.
At Drupa HP unveiled what it claimed is the 'industry's first' two-view cling UV targeted at retailers which would enable more creative in store signage.
The company also announced details of its new Business Development Programme for customers which includes consulting, training and support services along with a "welcome kit" of digital publishing start-up tools for customers who own the HP Indigo 3050 and the Indigo press ws4000 products.
HP's entire portfolio of colour imaging and printing solutions were on display at the show including the HP Indigo 3050, the new Designjet 30 and 130 and the HP Indigo 5000 which McGlynn said would become the company's "flagship product".
