How to... lead the way in green printing

  1. Take the lead with customers and educate them on greener options, for example, recycled paper and vegetable oil-based inks. Provide separate quotes for the greener alternatives
  2. Plan so that jobs are produced as efficiently as possible and ensure you measure production yields
  3. Reduce over-ordering – explain to clients the potential waste costs (and purchase costs) they are saving. Work with them to order efficiently. You may lose a small amount in additional purchase costs but it will give you market differentiation and clients will trust you as an environmentally responsible provider
  4. Measure the energy, waste and water used in your business. Then monitor and report resources savings and improvements
  5. Register the chemicals and hazardous materials used in your company and manage these effectively and according to legislation. To keep track of relevant legislation register with www.netregs.gov.uk
  6. Reduce your products’ packaging. Is it possible to reuse suppliers’ packaging for your own product deliveries?
  7. Report your green policy to customers in clear terms
  8. Consider an environmental management system to set a solid foundation for progress
