- Take the lead with customers and educate them on greener options, for example, recycled paper and vegetable oil-based inks. Provide separate quotes for the greener alternatives
- Plan so that jobs are produced as efficiently as possible and ensure you measure production yields
- Reduce over-ordering – explain to clients the potential waste costs (and purchase costs) they are saving. Work with them to order efficiently. You may lose a small amount in additional purchase costs but it will give you market differentiation and clients will trust you as an environmentally responsible provider
- Measure the energy, waste and water used in your business. Then monitor and report resources savings and improvements
- Register the chemicals and hazardous materials used in your company and manage these effectively and according to legislation. To keep track of relevant legislation register with www.netregs.gov.uk
- Reduce your products’ packaging. Is it possible to reuse suppliers’ packaging for your own product deliveries?
- Report your green policy to customers in clear terms
- Consider an environmental management system to set a solid foundation for progress
