Highworth Press changes hands

New owners have taken over Highworth Press, a family-run commercial printing firm near Swindon, with ambitious plans to grow the business.

Keith and Claire Nicholl, who have extensive experience in the print industry, have bought a 64% share for an undisclosed sum from Mike and Daphne Baylis, who ran the business for 23 years.

The remaining shares are held by Duncan Baylis and Ravinder Dhillon, who remain part of the management under the new ownership.

The deal, which completed on 21 December, was put together by Swindon-based Withy King solicitors and Monahans chartered accountants, with Blake Lapthorn Tarlo Lyons solicitors in Southampton and Watersheds in Swindon acting for the purchasers.

Keith Nicholl told printweek.com he planned to grow the business to £2m from a current turnover of about £1.25m over the next 18 months.

"We do B3 format for lots of blue chip companies, some print management companies, direct work, high quality brochure work, and high quality corporate stationery," he said.

"We have lots of experience in the industry so we'll hopefully bring in some fresh work and expand it a little bit but not too much."

Nicholl said the company, which is based in the Blackworth Industrial Estate in Highworth and has 14 employees, currently has two Heidelberg Speedmaster 52 5-colour presses, screen pre-press, in-house design, and finishing operations, and he planned to add digital capacity this year as well.
