The deal was put in place by Steve Donegal, the newly-appointed Highcon regional sales manager for the UK and Ireland.
Berkshire-based CMYUK will be offering the entire portfolio of digital cutting and creasing products from the Israeli manufacturer, including the Highcon Beam 2, Euclid 5 and Euclid 5S for carton applications, the Beam 2C non-stop configuration, and the Euclid 5C for corrugated.
Donegal spent nearly 20 years working at HP, in the UK and then Australia, before returning to the UK and taking up his new role.
He said there was untapped opportunity in the UK market for Highcon's systems.
“We’re really pleased that Highcon and CMYUK will be collaborating in this way. CMYUK has great coverage and has the experience and credibility in the market,” Donegal said.
“They are well-placed to assist us in our go-to-market strategy, and to take advantage of the opportunity that is presented by digital finishing.”
Donegal said the “vast majority” of packaging companies were yet to get to grips with changing requirements for short runs and faster turnarounds.
“Die cutting can sometimes take days to produce, companies have warehouses full of dies in the hope that the jobs they were made for will be repeated, and if they don’t, they just end-up in landfill, which is a real waste of environmental opportunity,” he added.
CMYUK sales and marketing director Robin East said the business would be able to bring its experience in digital finishing to the new partnership, and it was a great fit because CMYUK is also the exclusive UK distributor for Kongsberg, used for templating and prototyping.
“It’s very exciting. For me it’s like the last piece in the jigsaw puzzle. Why have a super-fast digital press and not have something that matches that in post-press?” he said.
“Highcon is absolutely a disruptive technology that is going to change the face of packaging. It’s that fundamental,” East stated.
“You can also do some really snazzy stuff with a Highcon that takes cardboard to a new level of creativity.”
The new partnership is effective immediately, and onboarding has already begun.
