Durham Box is to install the first Highcon Beam 2C system in the UK, and the Logson Group subsidiary has also become the first UK customer to sign up to its Vulcan programme as a future option.

Bishop Aukland-based Durham Box became part of the Logson Group just under a year ago.

Durham Box produces a range of corrugated packaging and display materials, and the Highcon Beam 2C digital die-cutting system for corrugated will join an EFI Nozomi single-pass inkjet printer, installed in 2019, at the firm’s 11,150sqm facility.

The deal was sealed at Drupa, where Highcon is exhibiting in Hall 9.

Managing director Dan Morris said the business was excited to add the Highcon device t.

“This will allow us to expand our product offerings and further enhance the ongoing and future expectations of the leading brands that we work with,” he said.

Morris told Printweek: “It’s a great addition for us, particularly alongside the EFI Nozomi C14000, with the Highcon to be located in the same section to create a dedicated digital production hall.”

He said the Beam 2C should be installed and operational by the end of September.

The amount involved in the fresh investment was not disclosed.

The Beam 2C has a B1 format and runs at up to 4,000sph, handling a wide range of corrugated board from 1.4mm to double wall flute.

Durham Box has the option to upgrade to the Beam 2C Nonstop configuration with nonstop stacker and waste removal.

The firm has also joined Highcon’s Vulcan option programme for its next-generation large-format device for mainstream corrugated production.

The £400m-plus turnover Logson Group includes sister companies Board24, Boxes & Packaging, Cases24, Jardin Corrugated Cases, Boxshop, Cardboard Box Company, Red Rose Packaging and Challenge Packaging.

Logson Group CEO David Richardson commented: “We are pleased to be joining forces with Highcon, a top-notch provider of digital die cutting systems. This is an exciting development for us, and we are looking forward to the many possibilities that this partnership will bring.”

Highcon CEO Shlomo Nimrodi praised the fresh partnership, and said: “The highly professional and dedicated team at Durham and Logson, with the leadership of Moti Vaknin, Highcon’s sales key account manager, have been instrumental in identifying existing and future business opportunities for the Highcon market. Without this joint collaboration, Highcon would not have reached this point.”
