Hewlett-Packard will use PDF as the preferred file format for use in its printing products, and has joined the standards development body CIP4.
HP has formed an alliance with Adobe, which includes the licensing of Adobes PDF libraries. The move is intended to improve consistency and efficiency in internet printing workflows.
"We look forward to working with Adobe to develop next-generation internet printing models," said HP Imaging and Printing Systems president Vyomesh Joshi.
"Its exciting to be working together to help printing and publishing professionals develop internet printing workflows that deliver consistent results," said Adobe president and chief executive Bruce Chizen.
HPs PDF products will start to appear next year.
HPs presence in the commercial print market is limited to large-format print, but this is set to increase this year when it ships its first digital press, which is an OEMd Indigo machine.
