The machine joins a five-colour 3000 and a seven-colour 3050 press at the company's site in Hertford.
Sales director Pete Turness said: "The reliability and efficiency of the HP Indigo press 5500 enables us to fulfil our customers' orders within the shortest possible time."
He added the new machine would allow the company "to provide customers with a responsive service and ensures their print reaches the marketplace quickly".
The company produces a range of personalised applications, including business cards, leaflets, short-run newsletters, brochures and mailers.
Herts & Essex Digital was established three years ago and handles digital work from sister company Herts & Essex Printers. The two printers have a combined workforce of 30 staff.
