The Bridgend printer was the first commercial UK customer to invest in Indigo technology in 1995 and anticipates the new machine will help build on its £700,000 turnover.
The 5500, which replaces two older Indigo models, an E-Print 1000+ and a Turbostream, will allow the 10-staff printer to offer spot colour for the first time.
Bob Whitaker, chairman of Gemini Digital Colour, said: "The new five-colour machine gives us the ability to offer spot colour and we're already attracting more business."
He added: "The investment was really in response to the demands of our customers. After seeing the quality of the Indigo 3050, which we installed in 2004, they weren't letting us print on the older machines. The 5500 is a great addition and I'm anticipating a 92% increase in capacity."
The company, which was established in 1995, carries out work for design agencies and specialises in the production of leaflets, brochures, books and fine art.
Gemini's 5500 will also allow it to offer a varnish effect online, which Whitaker believes will continue to help the printer attract more work from design agencies.
He said: "Our turnover and profitability increased significantly in the four years since 2004 when we installed the 3050, and with the new machine and enhancements it offers, we now have a very exciting proposition.
"At the end of the day, if you don't progress you go backwards, and we're going forwards."
The HP Indigo 5500 can print at resolutions up to 800x1200dpi and at speeds of 4,000 A4 pages an hour in full colour mode and 16,000 in single colour operation.
