Stephen Rodwell, a self-employed courier driver, was trapped against his vehicle by a forklift truck while his vehicle was being loaded at Heidelberg UK's premises on 21 December 2012.
Heidelberg UK appeared at Feltham Magistrates' Court last month charged with two counts of contravening a health and safety regulation and one of breaching a general duty to those at the workplace.
At a plea hearing on 11 May, Heidelberg admitted breaching a general duty to Rodwell and was fined £11,000 and ordered to pay £7,000 in costs. The other two counts relating to health and safety were withdrawn.
Heidelberg UK managing director Gerard Heanue said that the company had improved its procedures as a result of the incident.
"We view health and safety as a top priority and fully regret the injuries caused to Mr Rodwell," said Heanue. "We go to great lengths to ensure that we meet our responsibilities and this unfortunate incident highlighted to us an area where we could improve our procedures as they relate to control of visiting delivery and collection drivers.
"We reviewed the incident and implemented a new policy and corresponding procedures to ensure that there is no recurrence. We are pleased that Mr Rodwell’s injuries were not serious and that he made a full and speedy recovery."
