Heidelberg makes NexPress improvements

Heidelberg UK has formed partnerships with two firms to solve the biggest problems faced by NexPress customers - poor quality digital files and high administrative cost per job.

It is working with OneVision to fix supplied files and Pelagon on integrating production and administration.

Digital printers have even less control and a greater variety of files than other printers, said Andy Campbell, Heidelberg UK digital development manager. You dont want to spend time fixing files. If you have a guy taking time to manually correct files it wipes out your margin.

He selected the pre-flight and PDF creation module from OneVisions SpeedFlow as the best tool for NexPress customers. The two firms have an arrangement that allows Heidelberg to provide just SpeedFlow Check to NexPress users.

Pelagon and Heidelberg are working on an e-commerce system based on Pelagons Spinnaker. Based on an SQL database, Spinnaker provides job tracking and asset management. It can be configured with a price list to generate invoices or be linked to an existing MIS to obtain data.

It will be shown at Heidelbergs autumn open houses and Digital Print World. It will be provided as a Pelagon-hosted ASP to allow users to trial it before buying outright and will cost about 1,000 per month.

Its 50 a day, you could lose that by missing a slot, having to get a courier or forgetting to invoice, said Pelagon chief executive Dave Parker.

Pelagon and Heidelberg first worked together when Pelagon supplied MIS and e-commerce to Basingstoke Press as part of its massive Digimaster installation.
