Heidelberg launched a new two-page DI press the Quickmaster DI 46-4 Pro at Print 01.
Based on the existing Quickmaster DI, it has a new feeder for improved quality and versatility and a new control console.
The biggest modification is the addition of a stream feeder, as used on the SM 52, said Bernard Niemoeller, Heidelberg UK marketing manager pre-press and digital.
Registration is improved with the new feeder, allowing jobs to be passed through the press twice for special colour work.
There was a demand for adding extra colours, we had the option of adding a fifth unit, but it would be much more complex, he said.
The new feeder also adds the ability to handle a wider range of stocks down to 40gsm and, by switching to single sheet feed, to print envelopes.
Other new features include a new CP 2000 style control console, with all press function controlled from the touch-panel LCD display.
Heidelberg has stuck with the Presstek laser diode imaging system rather than opt for Pressteks latest ProFire system.
The lasers can be changed by the user; you cant do that with ProFire, he said. And why move to new technology when we still have the fastest imaging and make-ready time?
Pre-press remains the same with the choice of a Harlequin or a Delta RIP. The latest version of the Delta RIP has modified screening to produce 400lpi screens at 1,270dpi in under four minutes.
Heidelberg UK is taking orders now for the press, which will cost 295,000 and begin shipping in October.
