Haymarket Publishing is poised to reveal the results of an in-depth supplier review, which will cut its print and repro costs by more than 1m.
The production management team have carried out the review over the past three months, with two clear aims, explained group production director Chris King.
"We are looking at supplier consolidation and a technological change of direction to move towards digital workflows. We are selecting printers that already have or intend to implement computer-to-plate."
Haymarket publishes PrintWeek and around 50 other titles in the UK, 12 of which are weeklies. King said that the quality and schedule benefits of computer-to-plate were particularly important for the group's weekly titles: "If we don't have CTP we have a schedule and competitive disadvantage," he added.
King is currently recruiting a pre-press manager to work closely with the editorial and publishing teams on digital workflows, in what's described as a strategic role. "We are quite serious about this," he said.
The results of the supplier review will be revealed next week.
